The Unproblematic Black Woman: White People’s Puppet on Strings

Recently, Tabitha Brown posted an Instagram video stating how Black people’s Target boycott is keeping Black authors from making best-seller lists.

Black Instagram was not happy. Some felt she was blaming consumers. Others felt she didn’t take the time to give a comprehensive, solution-oriented video on where to buy the books to help the authors get on the best-seller lists. Some suggested this was a paid Target infomercial by a well-media-trained influencer.

When the boycott first ensued, Tabitha made a great video that I found informative. I even wrote an article, reiterating her points and suggesting a targeted boycott that would not hurt Black brands in Target.

Tabitha’s plea did not work then. So, here she is again making another plea, and it seems contrived because people heard her the first time and didn’t comply. What made her think it would be different this time?

Tabitha’s response to the pushback was a prayer to her “uneducated” haters. Many, including myself, find the prayer…
