Vote or Die: Surviving Diddy Part Four
Is voting red ever OK in the Black community?
Voting has always been controversial in the Black community.
On the one hand, there are those who believe that voting is a privilege that our ancestors fought for, and thus, we should never take it lightly.
On the other hand, there are those who believe that the racist history of this nation is proof of the fact that the Black community will never get its just-do by appealing to the very same authorities that have been inflicting suffering on them from the beginning.
Others still, not only believe that Black people should vote, but they also believe that all Black Americans must vote democratic in every last election, no matter who the candidates, or whether they agree with their causes an initiatives on and individual level.
As a self-proclaimed political atheist, it’s the latter demographic that is the most troubling. From where I sit, slogans such as “vote blue, no matter who” speak to perceived mindlessness and the lack of the ability to make individual decisions as a collective.
Vote or Die?
Headed by none other than Sean “P Diddy” Combs, the Vote or Die campaign was created to stress the importance of voting to the urban/Black community.
