In 2018, Camilla Tominey wrote a story that claimed Meghan made Kate cry. That story basically started the three years of racial abuse Meghan suffered from. For me that story also exposed the racist underbelly of White Britain.

The only reason the “Meghan made Kate cry” story become a big deal is because of racism. Racism sees black women as aggressive, violent, angry. We are seen as men in women’s body. White women, on the other hand, are the epitome of frail beauty. They are seen as delicate, pure, weak who need to be defended and protected at any cost. This is the reason black men used to be lynched for making white women uncomfortable in early 20th century America. In today’s America, Black men who rape white women get the most severe punishment. On the other hand, domestic violence against Black women is usually ignored.

When Kate told Britain that Meghan made her cry at the wedding, what White Britain heard was not just two women cat fighting, sniping at each other at a wedding. What white Britain heard was a violent angry black woman attacked a delicate, frail white woman. White Britain was angry. They wanted blood. They wanted revenge. Meghan was virtually lynched for three years and continues to be lynched to this day. Meghan was called all kinds of names. She was caricatured as a violent animal. She was labeled a bully.

And this was the response Kate expected when she leaked the crying story. Meghan was outshining Kate. Kate could not compete with Meghan on style, on work ethics or on charisma. But Kate knows one area she can beat Meghan on: her white woman tears. Kate weaponized her white woman tears against Meghan.

Kate could not compete with Meghan on style, on work ethics or on charisma. But Kate knows one area she can beat Meghan on: her white woman tears.

If Meghan was white, white Britain would have seen the episode for what it was: two sister-in-laws being mean to each other at a wedding and moved on. Instead, the crying story is still a big scandal to this day. A few weeks ago, Daily Mail published a story with the title “The 40 Times Meghan Angered the Palace” and one of them was when she made Kate cry.

(One more thing: Kate is Carolyn Bryant.)
