This space was created to fill a gap that exists for those with advanced degrees, particularly doctoral degrees (though much of this is also relevant for those with master’s). There are many myths and incorrect information floating about for what an academic can and should be after academia. Skills go unnoticed or underutilized because of a language gap. People spend years in precarious roles with little chance for advancing. And talent is wasted on the academic application cycle that rewards very few.
This publication was created to bring together stories and resources designed to help others land a role after graduation. So keep an eye on this space by subscribing and welcome!
Who is this for?
This space is for academics. Whether you stayed in higher education or moved on to another space, you’ll find valuable information here. This space is not meant to be dismissive of academia, but instead will call attention to the larger world of possibilities that exist for those with advanced degrees.
Why this space?
This space was created to fill a gap. Currently, there are resources spread out through individual sites, books, and the occasional journal article. Much is not easy to find nor easy to digest. Therefore, this repository and easy-to-read series was developed.
What will I find here?
Each story follows an individual from their advanced degree through their current role. Inside, you’ll find:
- Engaging interviews with others who successfully transitioned to interesting roles
- Tangible examples for translating skills developed in higher education
- Book reviews and resources
There will also be a specialized subsection dedicated to experiences in higher education. In this subspace, we take a serious look at how academia currently functions, what is missing, and what needs to change. We take a strong stance of supporting all academics, regardless of background, and working collaboratively toward a better future.
