Aim to build a Sparrow’s nest.
Life is constructed on simple hopes.
Here are a few fascinating lines from Wordsworth’s brilliant poem:
‘The Sparrow’s nest’.
‘Those bright blue eggs together laid.
Gleamed like a vision of delight.
The home and sheltered bed,
The Sparrow’s dwelling.’
According to Chinese Mythology, Sparrow is considered to be an epitome of good luck. Hence, it is a popular belief that a sparrow’s nest can bring in happiness, companionship, hope etc.
What are we building our homes of life with? H-O-P-E-S.
Eleanor Roosevelt has mentioned, ‘The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.’
Hopes are of different types. Stashed, near-yet far and perpetual. Let’s dive into details of what each type of hope looks like.
Stashed hope
Sparrows stash leaves, feathers, twigs, etc. on window sills or trees to build their dream home. Ironically, stashed hopes are hoarded in the secret dungeons of one’s minds. They are a result of accumulation over a period of time.
Example of a stashed hope is: 1.To become a secret club musician or DJ, although family claims to not approve of it or 2.To aim for a street dancing profession although the family would not agree to it because of its conservative values, etc.
These are instances where a hope is hidden in a secret nook or cranny of the body. Stashed hopes are unearthed when a deep burning passion of fire to pursue the hidden hope, ignites from within.
Near-yet-far hope
Sparrows do not just stop with looking out for local resources to build their nest. They scout near and far to collect raw materials for building the nest. Symmetrically, the very fact that I finished my high school is a typical example of the near yet far hope. What once seemed like a far away dream, came true.
IKR? Hilarious. But the truth.
Likewise, hope for something that looks far fetched but very near and achievable. For example: becoming a military commando or the President of a country, would have seemed like a far cry in the earlier days. But now, anyone is capable of having their hopes pinned high on what they target to achieve through rightly channeled efforts.
As Emily Dickinson quotes,
“Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul — and sings the tunes without the words — and never stops at all.”
Perpetual hope
This is the everlasting happy-home phase of sparrows. They build nests with wholesome love for gaining eternal happiness.
A similar scenario to where sparrows create their homes for eternal happiness, everlasting hopes are manoeuvred towards ultimate joys in life.
Examples are when you hope to have an imperfectly perfect relationship or hopes that a Co-vid survivor has towards life after the dreadful disease or the dreams of a Cancer survivor, etc. can be classified under this category.
As Howard Thurman wisely put, ‘A dream is the bearer of a new possibility, the enlarged horizon, the great hope.’
For whatever dream or hope you create in your mind, set a road map and trace the journey towards destiny.
