#13 — Writing Idea of the Day Challenge — When do you feel Loose as a goose?

What is meant by being loose as a goose? The definition that fits this story is — relaxed, easy, or laid back.

We’re always being told to relax to improve our mental health. But doesn’t that sound cold and clinical?

On the other hand, if your doctor told you to seek ways to feel loose as a goose, doesn’t that immediately put a smile on your face? There is an element of fun and adventure to seeking relaxation that renders you a loosey-goosey.

So here are my answers to the challenge question, When do you feel Loose as a goose.

  • The first time I enjoyed an outdoor hot tub after a day of skiing certainly turned me into a loosely goosey in no time at all. I’d spend 15–20 minutes in the hot tub and then dive into the snowbanks surrounding the tub to cool off and then back to the hot, bubbly water. Repeating that cycle several times made me so relaxed my legs felt like overcooked spaghetti. The sky could have fallen on me at that time and I doubt I would have cared.
  • The next thing on my list is laying on a warm, sandy beach under a large umbrella. The soothing breeze and melodious surf accompanied by a pina colada would relax a monolith and I’m not nearly that rigid.
  • Taking a nap in an outdoor hammock. There is something about sleeping on a platform of air that loosens all my nerve endings.
  • Hot chocolate and a wood-burning fireplace. Staring into a fire is like hitting the pause button for my brain. I completely zone out in a good way.

In any of these scenarios, it’s hard to sustain a depressive mindset. On the contrary, when I reach the loosey-goosey stage, I feel an overwhelming sense of peace and wellbeing.

The key is finding the activity, setting, scenery, music, etc., that can help you transition from uptight, anxious, and depressed to relaxed, laid back, and loose as a goose.
