The language of time is astonishingly similar to the language we use with money. Similarly, the distinction between an asset and a liability transcends money; Understanding this distinction outside the scope of finance and wealth management is key to a more fulfilling and meaningful way of life.

I have first come across this distinction in one of the most notorious personal finance books of all time: “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki. In addition to exploring them in the world of money, I was fascinated enough to expand them to time: Does my time management cost me or earn me value? In other words, is the way I use my time adding something to my personal, professional, physical, or spiritual growth, or is it depleting my energy?

Know What You Do on a Daily Basis

Life on autopilot is hardly a myth. When we lose control over how we spend our time, our bodies become stressed, and losing sleep and appetite makes it almost impossible to meet all the high standards that we set for the day.

Time is energy.

Our body measures time differently than our minds do, and awareness is the way into listening to how each reacts to it; By developing awareness of what “takes too much of our time”, we become aware of where we channel our energy towards and we are better able to get hold of it: Where do you spend most of your energy?

Question What You Do

Time is an opportunity.

When it comes to conscious time management, asking questions goes beyond validating what you are doing. For instance, instead of the typical perception of time as empty slots to fill with work/activities, when using time intentionally, it is important to open your mind to perceive it as one BIG opportunity to create and generate value in your life. Also, remember to be kind to yourself while doing that. So, how can you best use your time? what are you getting out of this moment right now? and, is it adding anything to your personal, professional, spiritual, or physical growth?

Don’t Take Time for Granted

Time is a gift.

In the world of investment, it is of great value. Though, when it comes to its management, taking it for granted is bound to make us misuse it and direct our energy into activities that don’t serve us one way or another. However, if we understand that there is no day like today ever again, we can use time as a tool, and cooperate with it to advance towards our self-development.

Hope this piece was of help to you! I wish you a rewarding come back to work/school!

Thank you,
