In Spite of it All
a sonnet for love
Sometimes sunfall and rain will both come to the earth as we need them;
Sometimes we offer wise words and find that our loved ones can heed them.
Far more often, whatever we offer is not what is wanted,
And our gestures of kindness leave us with hands outstretched, hearts daunted.
In our age, then, as when we were young, we must wonder and wander,
Always hoping to find those who don’t see our gestures…
