Di Pieter Paul Rubens — “Bibliothek des allgemeinen und praktischen Wissens. Bd. 5” (1905)

Things happen all the time, having consequences on our lives — this is a fact.

But a correlation exists between how we perceive things and the impact we allow them to have on us — it’s in our mind.

The mind, an incredibly complex interface we have at our disposal, is not just the access point to reality as we know it but also a powerful filter to interpret it and act consequently.

And two facts can give us high power:

  • Our mind belongs to us
  • Our mind is trainable

But to achieve its greater potential, you have to work on it, consistently and consciously at first, until it eventually becomes an effortless habit, as you run without thinking to move your legs. You just do it — the Nike immortal slogan resonates well with this concept.

Seneca also understood this and his quote reminds us how we can be like a fortress, eager to embrace positive things life can offer — actively searching for it — but resilient to the rest, especially when we’re able to resize the inner perception of what we are used to consider harmful.

So, next time something negative happens, assess it first consciously instead of just letting the — presumed — consequences poison your thoughts.

Become unconquerable.
