I love to laugh. Laughter heals us. Laughter is healthy for us. Laughter has physical, emotional, psychological, social, and spiritual benefits for Humans.
Laughter might very well be The Antidote for all the bullshit we encounter in what passes for The News these days — the dark pit of soul-sucking despair of hatred and gloom.
But, you don’t need me to make a case for laughter’s benefits — you already know this. Humans are wired to seek Happiness, to experience Joy — we have positive feedback loops within our social and endocrine systems so primitive even as babies we respond to laughter.
Ask any parent/grandparent who has just witnessed The Blessed Event of a Baby’s First Giggle. They. Are. Undone. With. Joy. Over the moment.
And the kid will keep giggling at you as long as you keep smiling at her. It will be a complete and total endorphin storm for everyone within range.
You can’t bottle that stuff. Although — if we could…oh the possibilities!
I just spent a week with my granddaughters and I did a lot of laughing. I did a lot of smiling. I did a lot of looking at my family with complete awe and joy. I’m sure laughter was The Magic Potion which helped me turn the corner and brought me to the place I am now — doing better — and feeling stronger than I have in weeks.
When we have a choice — and we ALWAYS have a choice — we should choose laughter. Over All. The. Things.
It will heal us. It will heal our society. It will heal our planet. Because Life is funny — even in its ups and downs and all arounds. The Universe will always send a punchline — a moment — a twist — or a turn. She is the world’s greatest comedienne.
