lost himself

I told you once about a man, who lost himself
in his words and gestures
in his ways of feeling —
in the vastness of this world.

I find myself looking for him,
day in and out
when my eyes are wide awake at night,
searching every corner of my memory.

And I wonder if peace is with him,
if he brought it along or if it’s something he’s never heard of.

And I wonder what he thinks of this life of his,
if it burdens him so much that he’s ready to waste it all.

And I wonder where he goes to when he’s alone in his head,
if he remembers who he used to be.

I told you once about a man, who lost himself
in the way he loved
in how he cared and nurtured —
in how he would dance across earth’s surface.

And love,
I still find myself looking for that man,
my ears wide awake,
searching for his every whisper—
hoping he will find himself again.
