N.B. Many sonnets, including those of Shakespeare, use “iambic pentameter” — which is basically five “beats” to a line. This sonnet uses only one “beat” to each line, but still follows the English or Shakespearean sonnet rhyming scheme of “abab cdcd efef gg.”
