Placed on a Pedestal

. . . a human foible

“Don’t put me on a pedestal, for I am sure to fall. Just love me as I am flaws and all.” — Author Unknown — Image on nicknotas.com

I don’t know about you
but I have a tendency to
put people on a pedestal
(… not a good idea!)

When someone really
pleases or impresses me
I set them head and shoulders
above everyone else that I know

— and yes, you guessed it . . .
I set them way up high there
. . . up on that mighty pedestal!

But always they end up getting
knocked down off the pedestal
. . . not by me, but by themselves

Of course they never know
that they were up high on
a pedestal in the first place

That’s because I never tell them
— it’s just a part of my own mind
. . . a creation of my imagination

In reality no one can stay on top of
a pedestal for any length of time
because we are all ‘perfectly
imperfect’ human beings

We ultimately belong on the ground
living out our lives in full daily action
. . . not standing inertly on top of a pedestal!
