Souring

Resentment turns the sweetest things unbearably sour

Once you were sweet,
dripping with possibility
and promises,
a delectable exotic dessert
almonds and candied
blood oranges

Then the sun came out,
sapping your sugar coat
and fragrant pulp,
leaving behind
the acrid sting
of cyanide

Now I suffocate
.
unable to extract
oxygen from
the surrounds
.
and I drown
.
in your
.
bitter
.
sea
