Have you ever found yourself with compulsive thoughts? — Maybe about a situation that is anxiety inducing, or a relationship that is causing distress or a job that is causing stress? You are not alone, and this article will provide you with a practical tool to help you organize your thoughts and focus on constructive mental activity.

Are you the master of your mind?

Our mind thinks a thought every damn second. Literally — just pause and observe your mind for the next 20 seconds. How many thoughts crossed your mind?

With so many things happening around us, we are in a state of constant stimulation from work, people around us, our phone apps — so much so that when we try to sit still, our mind is still reeling from the load of stimulation we have fed it during the day.

This might have made you feel that your mind runs you versus you running your mind.

Let us find out

Now let us try another activity. Think of an elephant. Now think of a pink elephant. Were you able to do it? I hope the answer for most of us is yes. So clearly, you do have the ability to channel your thoughts and choose to think about something specific.

This is our superpower, even if in a world full of stimulation, we might have forgotten it.

Ok great to know, now what?
