The Portal
And its seekers

The cats can’t help themselves
to cram into the boxes
or find the smallest crevasse
between the walls and sofa.
They’re drawn to tiny spaces,
explorers of the dark
like knowing there’s a portal
they once knew and forgot.
A portal to the world
they sometimes seem to see,
when they stare like a radar
through walls and human beings.
I wonder where it leads
the portal, when they’ll find it;
I’m sure that it exists
as all their species seek it.
