When we want to achieve something, we usually think in terms of effort, meaning we’re consuming energy to obtain that result.

Let’s flip the point of view and let’s consider that pursuing that goal is giving energy: naturally, we can be physically or mentally exhausted doing related activities but we feel energized because we’re following what matters for us.

We absorb energy when we do something we care about and this energy makes us grow.

But the opposite is also true: there are actions, situations, relationships that drain energy from us, preventing us to improve ourselves.

Think about a hated job, a love relationship maintained only for convenience, being out of shape and complaining about health issues, and everything we take for granted.

Maybe it seems maintaining the status quo is the best choice or maybe we don’t know how to start but if we begin to look in terms of energy flow, we can see clearly what we care about and what is a burden.

So, let’s start to ask ourselves: what is giving or draining energy from me?

When in doubt, follow the energy
