Young Men — a poem

Young men are full of things

They must let go

Pride and braggadocio

A warrior’s impulse

Is all very well

But often it leads

Straight to hell

But truly there comes

A time in life to give up

Warring, trials and strife

Maybe find a comely wife

A true companion, a peaceful life

Thrusting ascent may feel

Necessary for a while, then

The wise learn to relent

To kick off their shoes

Settle back for Lent

We all find in the end

What we want we cannot have

In a world which has no clue

About what’s real
