As a student, you have a thirst for knowledge. You want to explore the world and its wonders. You want to know how things function, why they occur, and what they signify. But sometimes, you face challenges that make learning difficult. You may encounter some concepts that are too complicated, some terms that are too unfamiliar, some theories that are too vague, or some formulas that are too intimidating. You may also want to grasp the main idea of a long text without reading it in detail. Or you may have an interest in something new or a goal to enhance your skills.

How can you overcome these challenges and make learning more fun and efficient?

The solution is simple: use ELI5, TL; DR and IWTL prompts with Bing Chat, Google Bard, or ChatGPT. For those who are not familiar, ELI5, TL; DR and IWTL are internet slang popularized by Reddit users and other online communities. ELI5 stands for “Explain Like I’m 5”. When Reddit users use ELI5, they want people to explain something in a simple and clear way that a 5-year-old child would understand. On the other hand, TL; DR stand for “Too Long; Didn’t Read”. When Redditors and other online users write TL; DR to your response, it means that the text is too long to read, and they ask you to provide a summary of your long text. As for IWTL, it is an acronym for “I Want to Learn” that Redditors use to indicate their interest in learning something new or improving their abilities.

In the context of learning, students can use:

  1. ELI5 to ask Bing Chat, Google Bard, or ChatGPT to simplify complex concepts in a way that a 5-year-old can comprehend. For example, you can prompt Bing Chat, Google Bard or ChatGPT using any of the following (DNA, black hole, genetics, big bang theory, gravity, the meaning of life, the nature of reality, the ethics of artificial intelligence) by saying ELI5: what is... However, it is important to check the feedback with someone else since there is a possibility that the explanation can be oversimplified to the point of losing some essential meaning.
  2. TL; DR can be used by students to ask Bing Chat, Google Bard or ChatGPT to summarize long texts such as articles, books, essays, reports, etc. For example, you can prompt Bing Chat, Google Bard, or ChatGPT using any of the following (The Catcher in the Rye, The Origin of Species, The Art of War, The Declaration of Independence, The Universal Declaration of Human Rights) by saying TL; DR what is... However, it is important to note that the summary may not capture all the nuances and details of the original text and may not reflect your own interpretation or analysis.
  3. IWTL can be used by students to ask Bing Chat, Google Bard, or ChatGPT to teach them something new or help them improve their skills. For example, you can prompt Bing Chat, Google Bard, or ChatGPT using any of the following (how to play chess, how to speak French, how to code in Python, how to draw a portrait, how to write a poem) by saying IWTL... However, it is important to remember that these tools are not substitutes for formal education or professional guidance and may not provide accurate or complete information.

These are some of the ways that students can use ELI5, TL; DR and IWTL prompts to enhance their learning experience with Bing Chat, Google Bard, and ChatGPT. These tools are designed to be fun and interactive, but they are not perfect and have limitations. Therefore, students should always verify the information they receive from these tools with other sources and consult with experts if they have any doubts or questions.
