4 Things You Should do If You Want to Increase Your Productivity.
Every one of us wants to give our best at the particular work that we do and excel in a particular field that we have chosen. But many of us end up procrastinating and pilling up the work. Obviously, nobody intends to do so but it just happens.
It is always a struggle to fight your laziness and get on the right track. But isn’t it better to be equally productive every day rather than hustling later to get the things done?
Here are a few things that you must try to make a habit of to increase your productivity and avoid procrastination. These habits personally have worked out very well for me.
These are very minute changes that if made can really help you make a difference in your physical and mental activeness.
1. Make a To-Do List
Have you ever been in a situation where you skipped an important work mistakenly and did something else in its place?
Of course, every one of us is a bit forgetful sometimes and especially when we are burdened with a lot of work. I used to usually end up in situations like this and get panicked.
But that's not the case anymore since I have started to make a to-do list. This is one of the most important things that you shouldn’t skip if you really want to begin with a productive day.
Even if you feel energetic and enthusiastic someday but you don’t decide what tasks you need to accomplish throughout the day all your energy and time are going to be of no avail because you will just keep wondering about what to do next.
To make a To-do list you can use the notes application on your phone, a spreadsheet on your computer, or even a paper.
The best way is to make sections
- For the tasks that you have decided to do and arranged according to your priority.
- The time that you allot for a particular task to be done.
- The third one to mark done once it’s done!
This gives you a clear idea about what is your target and where have you reached and makes everything much more manageable.
When I mark something done on my to-do list I really feel satisfied and relaxed also more confident and enthusiastic to get done with the next task.
It then becomes like challenging yourself and at the same time encouraging yourself to do better and more work.
2. A Well Organized Work station/ Workspace
Now, this is something that really, really, really works. Before I actually tried it and made it a habit I would always be scolded by my family for not being organized.
It is very important to have a fixed place where you sit and work comfortably with all the equipment available and well organized.
Especially during this pandemic time where the majority of people are working from home.
This saves a lot of time for you that you might waste searching for something that you misplaced or struggling to find the right place in your house where you can sit and work without any disturbance.
This disciplines your mind as you work without making any silly excuses to yourself like I can not work right now because I have this thing missing or that thing not available. Because you will have everything present right at your work station.
P.S. — A workstation not necessarily has to be expensive or fancy. It can be simple yet very helpful.
For instance, you can just put together an old chair and table available in your house and set up all your equipment there and you will have your work station ready.
3. put up Motivating Quotes
Now, this might sound quite unusual but yes this works. This boosts your motivation all the time. You can decorate the room where you work or your desk with motivating quotes.
Just a few months ago I had to prepare for an important exam and at times it would become difficult for me to concentrate on my studies and sometimes I would just waste my time looking here and there or staring at the walls.
This might sound funny but yes when you are stressed and have a lot of thoughts going on at the back of your mind you do these things.
So my sister suggested this idea and it did work.
For example, I had put quotes like
Don’t stop when you’re tired; stop when you’re done —Marilyn Monroe
Push yourself because no one else is going to do it for you — Anonymous
And many more like these. So whenever you look at it, it reminds you of your goal and then you have a second thought before stopping. This will also bring you positive vibes.
P.S. — You don’t need to invest a lot of time or money decorating your room with quotes neither you have to be very artistic as said before it can be simple yet helpful.
4. Take Short Breaks
Often, being more productive is misunderstood as only being able to finish doing a lot of tasks throughout the day.
Yes, being productive means being able to work more but it does only stick to this point it also means to give your best at it.
And you can only give your best at something when you enjoy doing it. And to enjoy something you need to make sure that you don’t get bored easily.
And the best way to prevent yourself from being bored is to take short breaks.
Why Specifically Short Breaks?
A short break basically means taking a break for a maximum of 10–15 mins. The reason for this is if you take a break for more than this you lose the focus and to get that continuity back becomes very difficult.
For instance, you might start using your phone and get distracted there or you might eat a lot of food which eventually will result in laziness.
Whereas when you take a short break you get time to relax your body and mind but you don’t get completely distracted and lose your focus within 10–15 mins as you know after this you have to quickly get back to the work.
Why Should You Follow These Tips
All these tips basically will help you to stay organized, manage your time more efficiently, stay motivated, and be more enthusiastic.
We often tend to overlook these small habits but doing these small things can really make a difference and can help you to bring the best out of you.
And lastly trying something new for your own betterment is never going to cause you any loss.
