Reading slump is real. The Urban Dictionary defines it as:

“A reader’s worst nightmare. Not being able to pick up a book and read because you can’t, you just can’t read.”

Reading slump is when your brain stops comprehending the text, the everyday reading feels like deciphering the Harappan language. It is when you begin reading with a lot of motivation but lose interest within 2 pages. Reading Slump is when reading feels like a chore. It is when you begin questioning your identity: “Was I ever a true reader?”

I have been in a reading slump or a reader’s block more times than I can remember. But I don’t completely agree with the UD’s definition as: ‘reader’s nightmare’ because of its causes.

A reader’s block can be due to university when you are bombarded with various readings that you must do. Or it can be because you picked a book too difficult from your present level of understanding of the topic. Or as in an article by BookRiot: the reasons for reading slumps can span from anxiety to brain tumours, eye problems that cause headaches when you read…
