A Black Perspective on America’s Collapse
Yes, America is in collapse. If you don’t realize that you are in deep, deep denial. I can’t pinpoint exactly when it started, but we can begin with the election of Donald Trump in 2016. Or, perhaps, go back to the election of Barack Obama in 2008. Yes, all of this is a result of white America not being able to handle the election of America’s first Black president. We are now under an authoritarian oligarchy that is going to hurt the majority of Americans because white people couldn’t handle having a Black president. Sometimes, I wonder if it was worth it — the election of the nation’s first Black president — but then I recognize that’s how they want us to feel. Some call it a whitelash.
Whitelash or “white backlash,” according to Wikipedia, “is related to the politics of white grievance, and is the negative response of some white people to the racial progress of other ethnic groups in rights and economic opportunities.” These white Americans didn’t only have to get a white man back in the White House; they also had to take “their” country back. Hence — Make America Great Again —which means make America white again.
