Building a Raised Garden
An adventure in my second garden design
I haven’t had a good sized garden in 7 years, but I had an opportunity to build a new one. It was a long rectangle so I planned to make a raised garden with a little pathway. The aim was to make it 13 feet by 3 feet by 1 foot high.
First, I had to set the ground work by rearranging the bricks and get an outline.
Then I got to work.
A lot of work happened at night.
I had to remove the old wood and contend with some termite spiders.
Then I got some wood to frame it, but I rejected half of the logs so it took a bit longer.
I finished framing and pounded in the rebar.
I wanted to put plastic down to keep the weeds out, but I had stones in the way so I went section by section. Each time, I removed the stones, put the plastic down, moved the bricks to put them on top of the plastic, and then filled back in the stones.
Finally, it was ready for dirt.
Apparently, I maxed out the weight limit of the car. I filled in layer after layer of beautiful dirt.
Finally, I planted. Here is the before and after:
I love gardening and seeing the plants slowly grow. It’s in my blood.
