Coding: Why It’s Time for Your Child to Hop on the Train

Mandarin, Spanish, French and German may open doors but Python, Java, R and Stata open palaces. Knowing languages — specifically coding languages — has numerous benefits ranging from improving one’s analytical and problem solving skills to preparing one for the workforce. Coding is the new craze for a reason. It’s time we embrace it and here’s why:

1. Think**2

Coding will help your child develop thinking skills important for anything they do in life. From visualizing abstract ideas to concisely expressing thoughts, programming provides your child with skills useful for any and every part of their life. Learn to code apps for kids ages 6+ including ScratchJr are pre-installed in the Tanoshi 2-in-1 Computer, making it easy for your child to get a jumpstart on coding. Furthermore, it’s important to know and understand basic foundations of technology; our children are surrounded by computers, tablets, smartphones and more. Familiarity with writing and interpreting code helps kids better process all the technology that surrounds them.

2. Advance academics

The analytical skills your child gains from learning to code at a young age will certainly aid them in a number of ways in school. From helping with math to writing and spelling, learning to code will certainly help boost your child’s academic performance. Coding teaches patience, persistence and to practice. Above that, coding embraces creativity in problem-solving, allowing kids to experiment so they can conclude that a plethora of methods can lead to the same solution — there’s always more than a single right way.

3. Jump for jobs

This is likely not on your radar but coding will prepare your child for the workforce. If something helps them think better and perform better academically, then it will certainly help them later, too, no matter where they go. There is a high demand for programmers and some programming knowledge can be useful in practically every sector of life. But whether or not your child has a job in the technology industry, learning how to code at an early age sets them up with unique and useful ways to think about and solve complex problems and issues. While languages themselves make one more marketable, the skills your child gains from learning to program are skills are essential anywhere your child goes.
