5 Ways to Challenge Yourself

1. Make a plan

Writing out a step-by-step plan for how you will tackle the challenge, is the next step after establishing what challenge you are going to take on. Break down the challenge into smaller tasks and ensure all the tasks align with the end goal.

You don’t need to know every single step right away, you just need to know the first 2–3. As you progress and gain more experience, you add more steps until you reach the end.

Breaking the challenge down and gradually adding steps as you allows you work on the plan and not to get overwhelmed.

2. Research

Whatever challenge you are trying to accomplish, whether it be running the London Marathon or going white water rafting, try to learn as much as possible about the challenge. Read articles, books and even peoples personal experiences related to it online.

Gaining as much information as possible will provide you with some confidence when partaking in the challenge and let you know how long you need to prepare for it.

3. Set reasonable expectations.

Understanding that you will not be able to pull of the challenge stratight away and you may need to prepare for it will stop you feeling inadequate and unmotivated. You will not be successful straight away. It usually takes time to reach your goal, it’s something you have to work at regularly.

Consistency is key.

4. Take risks.

Don’t be afraid to try new things and step outside your comfort zone.
The biggest risk is taking no risk. While you may feel like you don’t want to end up making yourself look like a fool and you want to stay in your comfort zone, there is something you should fear far more than doing something that scares you, it’s the feeling of regret. The feeling that you may grow old and will have achieved nothing of substance with your life.

5. Perseverance

The reason why most people do not get to where they want to be or achieve what they want to achieve, is because they give up. When trying to achieve anything of substance, anything worthwhile, you will always encounter obstacles. Even if the face obstacles, you should remain just as determined to complete the goal.

When people give up on a challenge, they buckle under the pressure of what the challenge requires of them. It’s not that a challenge is hard that makes people fold, it’s the fact they never expected it to be so.
Perseverance will separate you from your adversaries. Keep moving forward.
