Key problem of the Indian educational system

Well, let’s talk about the education which has been taught to millions of students in India.

Let’s go back all the way to 1947, when India finally was an independent country free from the colonial rule of the British. There were a lot of movements and struggles that India had to go through to become the country it is now.

The British had been ruling in India for over a century. And due to the movements and struggles, the education of youngsters wasn’t the main focus of the government of the country.

On 15th of August 1947, India was an independent country. Now, the government and the leaders had to build a nation from start. There was a lot a lot to deal with that time, like the partition of the country into Pakistan and India, the making of the constitution and so much more…

The government made a specific syllabus at that time which was made for students of that time. And let me tell you Engineering was a very respected job and stream at that time.

But it has been 75 years since the independence of the country of India but the syllabus hasn’t got much change to fit the thinking of today’s generation. This is what makes the system faulty.

The educational system hasn’t been changed since then making it very boring and mundane of the current generation to learn subjects like History, Math, Chemistry etc.

I do completely agree that there has been some changes in the system over the years but there hasn’t been a complete change.

The current generation is more attracted towards short-form content and places where they can get information faster without wasting much of their time. I really feel that ways of teaching and tools should be provided to schools to teach the students in a way which is beneficial for them; At the same time, is sustainable!

Why do Parents want their children to be Engineers?

Well, like I mentioned above, at the time, when India was still developing as a country, Engineering was a very well-respected job. Our parents have been themselves surrounded by people who are engineers and have done well.

Parents always want the good for their children and so it is very natural for parents wanting their child to go in such a stream or job where financial and job security is present (usually not always).

Usually if you are an engineer, you naturally get acceptance from the society, you get high status among the people around you. Being an engineer, you also have a lot of college options in India like IIT, NIT, VIT etc.

So now, I am sure you’ve understood why there is this huge hype around “Engineering” and why it is usually preferred by students in India and parents as well!
