Here’s How We Accelerate the Climate Movement
It’s time to capitalize on recent successes
In 2022, we saw welcome progress in the climate movement after decades of stasis. Namely, the climate provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act and a breakthrough in nuclear fusion technology.
Glimmers of success aren’t our sign to stop working and settle back to watch (as you don’t need me to tell you) but to accelerate.
We’ve had a taste of what sustained effort by dedicated advocates can achieve. Now, more please.
How do we build on past progress and accelerate the climate movement to the breakneck speed it needs (by sociological standards)?
By recruiting people from “being concerned” to “advocating”
There are people all around the world typing into search engines phrases like “how to go green,” “how to protect the environment”, etc.
I did a spot of SEO analysis on the keywords. Currently, the searches turn up the hackneyed answers: drive less, fly less, recycle more, buy credits.
It’s time we gave them better answers than that. We need to recruit them to take an active role in advocating for change.
