Homeschooling for the Non-Homeschooler

If you’re one of the parents who just got thrown into homeschooling by default in recent weeks, here are my best tips.

I’m a homeschooler by choice. I withdrew my kids from public school when they were in second and fifth grades. I had several reasons for doing so. But the decision was well thought out, made over a period of several months, and after much research and preparation.

And I still felt unprepared, uncertain, and inadequate. So if you’re one of the parents who suddenly found yourself homeschooling because the public schools shut down, and you’re feeling all of those things, don’t feel bad.

Let’s face it. This wasn’t your choice. You didn’t have time to do any research or get ready in any way. And we won’t argue the semantics about whether you’re actually homeschooling or doing public school at home, because the result is the same. Right now, you’re responsible for your kid’s education entirely and it scares the crap out of you.

As a veteran homeschooling mom (and one who works from home too, so I know all your struggles!), I want to share some of the best tips I have for making this work without tearing your hair out, locking the kids in the closet, or kidnapping a teacher to take over for you.
