Think of all the qualities you need to be successful. Self-help books and billionaire interviews consistently mention things like gratitude, humility, and kindness. And those are all extremely important.

But I would argue that there is one thing you need to practice to take things to the next level. Without it, your gratitude, humility, kindness will fall apart.

That one thing is truthfulness.

Let me explain.

Truth is essential to our existence

Looking at it from a basic level, the assumption that we are always truthful keeps the world in motion. If we didn’t naturally assume that everyone was truthful, we’d never ask what time it is, never get food delivered, and never get into a relationship. Why would we?

Trust is built on an assumption of truthfulness. If we constantly suspected everyone was lying, the world would fall apart. Famous philosopher Immanuel Kant said:

“By a lie, a man throws away and, as it were, annihilates his dignity as a man.”
