How To Pick a Job That Will Make You Satisfied

A recent study has identified the different job qualities, beyond salary, most likely to increase employee satisfaction.

As I’ve got older, I’ve realised that there are a lot of factors that go into whether I will find a job satisfying — it’s more than just the wage I’m being paid. The longest job I held down during my twenties was as an administrative assistant in a UK governmental department, I had that job for a grand total of eight months. The salary was good, which was what initially attracted me to the job, but I was far from happy doing the work — I resented going in to sit at my grey desk and spend eight hours staring at a computer screen —honestly, I’m surprised I made it to eight months.

I left most of the jobs I had during my twenties because I hadn’t properly considered if I’d find the role fulfilling before I applied. I usually applied to jobs for reasons of convenience, or financial reasons, way on the bottom of my list of priorities was whether I’d truly feel satisfied and fulfilled in the job.

Now, in my early thirties, I’m my sister’s Caregiver and I do some freelance writing on the side; my income is far less than in previous jobs, but my satisfaction is much higher. If I were to apply for any other part-time work to…
