How to Spot Greenwashing in Fashion
There is a thin line between sustainability and greenwashing
“Every time you spend money, you’re casting a vote for the kind of world you want.”
— Anna Lappé
As humans, we have polluted the earth, damaged floras and faunas, contributed terribly to environmental issues. We have also done all of these in various areas, including fashion. Now, nature is calling on us because of this long period with unconscious consumerism.
Responding to nature’s needs, there is a positive trend in the fashion industry. Sustainable brands and materials are on the rise. Even the biggest players are integrating eco-friendly policies. While it is uplifting to see this shift, there is also another huge problem, and it is called greenwashing.
What is greenwashing?
Greenwashing is a slightly new phenomenon, and it is anything but green. It is a marketing strategy to seem as environmental-friendly even if it is not the case at all. Unfortunately, it is just a ploy.
The rise of sustainability
It is not genuine or honest, but brands still choose to greenwash. The reason is simple; sustainability is hot right now.
