We often think that no perfectionist would leave important tasks to the last minute. No perfectionist would let herself NOT live up to her ideals. The truth is, perfectionism is a mindset. It is fear of failure, shame and rejection.

Perfectionism is like a little devil on your left shoulder, whispering into your ear, wasting your time. It tells you never to settle for anything short of your high ideals. The problem with it, that perfect does not exist and aiming for it numbs you into inaction.

There are two kinds of perfectionists: adaptive and maladaptive.

The previous work relentlessly towards their lofty goals, and are achievement centred. The latter are failure oriented. If you are an adaptive perfectionist: you have a growth mindset, enjoy challenges and have excellent problem-solving skills. In this article, I discuss the not-so-perfect form of perfectionism and how to overcome it.
