Government ought to be all outside and no inside. . . . Everybody knows that corruption thrives in secret places, and avoids public places, and we believe it a fair presumption that secrecy means impropriety.

– Woodrow Wilson

According to the “Future Is Now Schools — Los Angeles” website, the charter school “will open [in] Fall 2024.” This is a bold statement considering the LAUSD School Board has yet to approve its application. Steve Barr, the sponsoring organization’s founder and CEO, may have thought the results of the last election would make the approval a formality. After all, supporters of the Charter School Industry had spent almost $5.8 million to replace incumbent Scott Schmerelson with Barr’s longtime stooge, Dan Chang. Unfortunately for him, the electorate was not buying what he was selling and Schmerelson was returned to office.
