Keeping your old car might actually be better for the environment and for your wallet. I know, it sounds outrageous. So, how can it be? Old cars are petrol thirsty and exhaust a lot of harmful chemicals, both bad for you. On the other hand, electric cars (not necessarily battery-electric, more on this here) are exhaust-free and cheap to run.

Before diving into this article, I want to say that are many factors that should be taken into consideration before buying a new electric car. In this article, I’m only going to analyse the decision from an environmental and economic point of view.

This article assumes that you already own a car, so the cost of buying and the CO2 emitted by the old car are NOT taken into consideration since there is nothing you can do to change that.
