Basically, the myth of “Lone Genius” about creativity states that someone who is god gifted and can convert the idea into a masterpiece on their own.

According to Brian Eno, there exists a healthier way of thinking about creativity and the concept known as “Scenius”. Meaning: Great ideas are often birthed by a group of creative individuals like artists, thinkers.

Those Lone Genius were also part of the whole scene and created their masterpiece by supporting each other, looking at each other’s work, copying from each other, stealing ideas, contributing ideas, but by adding their own creativity.

Being a valuable part of a scenius is not necessarily about how smart or talented you are, but about what you have to contribute, the ideas you share, the quality of the connections you make, and the conversations you start.

The Internet brings those scenius people together, where they can share their ideas and creativity through blogs, articles, emails, newsletters, etc. You don’t have to be famous or anything. Online everyone, the expert and the amateur can contribute something. When we think more about how we can contribute to the scenius then we can adjust our expectations, we can stop asking what others can do for us and instead we start asking what we can do for others.

Signing off with the beautiful quote by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow — “Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think!!”
