This article is part two of a series on the benefits and challenges of green walls. Part one introduced green walls, reviewed its several types, and presented their thermal comfort and air-cleaning advantages.

Noise and health

Noise is a significant cause of health problems. The most apparent effects concern hearing-related illness. Noise causes hearing loss and tinnitus. Indirectly, hearing loss causes accidents and lower productivity.

Noise also damages heart health. More clear effects include high pressure, ischemic heart disease, and death.

A European Environmental Agency report revealed an alarming annual increase of 48,000 cases of ischaemic heart disease, resulting in 12,000 premature deaths and leaving 22 million people trapped in a state of chronic high annoyance.
