Stacey Abrams has made it official: She will make a second run at the Georgia statehouse next year.

When…not if…she wins, Abrams will finally, totally, destroy one of the last barriers and “glass ceilings” which have obstructed, barred and banned black American women from executive, state-wide political and economic power. Sure, there are and have been black female mayors galore, black female prosecutors/D.A.s, black female city, county and state executives and legislators; and even one or two black female lieutenant governors. But! Stacey Abrams is now positioned to become this nation-state’s first black female state governor.

Abrams made her declaration via Twitter and in an accompanying video today, December 1, 2021:

“I’m running for Governor because opportunity in our state shouldn’t be determined by zip code, background or access to power. No matter where we come from in Georgia, or how long we’ve been here. We believe in this place and our folks who deserve to be seen and heard and have a voice because in the end, we are one Georgia.”
