The 2026 School Board Race Begins
Charter School Industry shill Nick Melvoin draws a challenger in the next LAUSD election. Isaiah Mateas introduces himself to the voters.

Last week the 2024 LAUSD School Board election cycle ended with the swearing-in of the representatives from the odd-numbered Board Districts. However, there will be no chance to rest for supporters of public education in Los Angeles as the filing window has already opened for the even-numbered districts. While each of the incumbents is eligible to run, Dr. Rocio Rivas (BD2), Nick Melvoin (BD4), and Kelly Gonez (BD6) have not pulled the paperwork for the 2026 election. However, the Board’s first challenger has entered the race.
In the 2022 cycle, Nick Melvoin faced two unfunded, anti-vax candidates, one of whom had no education experience. Despite the lack of a real challenger, supporters of the Charter School Industry poured $2 million into his reelection campaign. In what should have been an…
