The world is full of “How to” guides on every topic imaginable. There are long-winded ones to read, short videos, complete courses online or offline.

Montclair State University even has a class named “How to watch Television”. Didn’t think you’d need a class for that, right?

No matter your interest, you can find information about it. How much is too much though? There’s no clear answer but one sign can help you find that threshold.

If you wonder whether you’ve done enough research, you certainly have.

Research and then stop

Read and watch videos about the topic you want to learn. Dive into that world and find a few different options.

Find a specialized community about it, such as A Language Learners’ Forum for language-learning. Google a few questions you have about the topic. Have a look at what’s popular on Quora on that topic. Watch videos from “famous people” in that field.

Then stop all this.

Either stop when you question yourself on the amount of time you spent, or when you’ve spent more than 7 hours researching. An hour…
