Losing Touch with Nature is a Very Bad Idea

Nature reminds of who we are and what we share, but what if we lose it once and for all?

Let me try to be brief and let me try to be clear.

We shouldn’t be destroying nature.

We are nature. We need nature. The microbes in the soil, the nutrients in the plants, the innate functions of our natural world are inextricably connected to our health and wellbeing as humans. But as humans we have several biases and bigotries we hold against the natural world, as our species continues to try to fight the reality that we come from dust, and we return to dust. At an existential level, humans have always faced the questions of origin as well as death and an afterlife, but for most of our ancient histories, we never questioned our existence of living with-, from-, and in dependency of nature.

Now today, in our westernized societies, high-income countries tend to try on living as far from nature as possible, focusing our attention on modern technology, industrialization, experiments of chemistry and theories of physics rather than standing outside with marvel of the stars at night. In fact, most of us can’t even see the stars when we step outside at night when we live around a town or city with lights on 24/7. They call this…
