The More Healed You Are, the Less Other People Bother You

Your interactions with other people will teach you everything you need to know about where you are inside your own journey of healing.

Do you feel happy for someone else when they experience good fortune in their life? Or does it trigger a sense of scarcity or jealousy in you?

If someone you have an issue with is struggling, do you take pleasure in their pain?

When someone hurts you, emotionally, do you seek retribution and dream of ways of hurting them back?

The more healed we are, the less other people bother us.

There’s a teaching in Buddhism which beautifully illustrates this. It’s about the difference between a pinch of salt in a thimble of water vs a pinch of salt in a pond.

In a tight, small container we can really taste the presence of the salt.

In a bigger, more generous container, we hardly know it’s there.

The difference is S P A C I O U S N E S S.

And it’s a difference we can create for ourselves when we choose to see our lives through a spiritual lens.

The more focused and devoted we are to our own healing, the less we are bothered by interpersonal friction. The pinch of salt is still there but the…
