The Opposite of Fear
A lot of fear has been coming up. Fear about the future. Fear about the state of the world. I’ve been sensing it in my own heart and witnessing it in the coaching clients I work with daily.
As I was reflecting on all of this earlier today, a thought surfaced in my consciousness:
The opposite of Fear is Love.
This is the framework from A Course in Miracles, which defines a miracle as a shift in perception and considers Fear just another word for Ego — the part of us that needs to be right, craves total control, has no bandwidth to stay present with the unfolding, is identified solely with the Self, rather than the Soul.
I find spiritual orientations like these extremely helpful right now because I deeply believe what we’re living through is much more complex than what we can grasp with our rational minds. We are called to process through a different lens, if we want to understand and evolve with it meaningfully.
The opposite of Fear is Love. The more we work with this simple idea, the more it transforms the presence of Fear in our lives. We reach for opposites naturally when we’re in pain — when we’re hurting the most burning question for us is: how do I make the hurt stop?
