There are two major factors that I have come across that have helped me understand what it takes to become a master teacher: preparedness and relationships.

Preparedness focuses on what materials you are covering and your understanding of the subject matter. My first year of teaching precalculus felt like learning how to swim. The goal was to thrive in the water, but realistically I was just keeping my head above water. I fell into a new community with all the ambitions of doing well.
