Have you ever pondered why something is, because it’s such a normal part of life but you don’t know how it came to be that way in the first place?

Or do you ever question the impact of a newly enacted policy or law on society?

Or maybe, you’re the type of person who obsesses over the pros and cons of every decision you make, stressing over whether it’s the “right” or “wrong” choice?

If so, then you might just think like a Freak. And I would argue, that’s a great thing.

I just finished reading the book Think Like a Freak by Stephen Dubner and Steven Levitt and it is a must read for everyone. The authors — both of whom are world-renown economists and journalists — also published the top-selling books Freakonimics and Superfreakonomics. In their latest book, they go beyond the illustrative stories and actually explain what it means to “think like a Freak”. In their own words, they describe what thinking like a Freak means…

“The modern world demands that we all think a bit more productively, more creatively, more rationally; that we think from a different angle, with a different set of muscles, with a different set of expectations; that we think with neither fear nor favor, with neither blind optimism nor sour skepticism. That we think like — ahem — a Freak.”
