Will Taking Notes in the Shower Make You More Productive?

I’m sure you’ve heard the old adage about having your best ideas come to you while you’re in the shower. Do you find that this is true? I was skeptical, and an informal poll of some friends and family made it seem like this wasn’t as prevalent of an idea as I thought.

Why Showers?

What makes the shower such a special idea incubator? Is it the confined space? The sound of the water? The heat? The moisture? The whole idea of it seems sort of magical but is it legit? Does your brain transform in that instant of taking your first step into this magical place?

I do think that it’s important for people to get out of their typical patterns when trying to brainstorm or ponder a difficult subject. I’ve written about how travel seems to have an impact on our brain and maybe the shower acts as a micro-travel destination for us. There really is nothing else like it throughout our day. Maybe getting caught in the rain sometimes? Could that stressful situation yield similar magic ideas? Seems unlikely.
