It was one of those days I had to finish a report from work. I took the task home because I thought working in my own place could make me more productive. Well, and I didn’t want to be at work, really.

I was deceiving myself. I didn’t want to work. I wanted to watch TV, go to the freeze to look for a beer, even go for a walk. I was avoiding sitting in front of the computer.

I may have looked for a different task than the report when I looked at my dog back then, Dereck, a standard schnauzer. A part of me wanted the dog to ask me for a walk so I could skip my duty. But no.

I said that I looked at Dereck, but it’s better said that Dereck looked at me. To my eyes.

I felt shame trying to use it as an excuse for not working. It was strange. But the awkward situation made me forget the excuses and start working. Under its watch.

The best productivity tool is your dog (or any pet)

And for productivity, I mean being in the zone.

In a very recent study, scientists from the University of British Columbia found that children read more and better in the presence of a dog, for example.
