Age of Emergence
Exploring transformative ideas and processes for facilitating sensemaking and emergence in a VUCA world
Note from the editor

I am fascinated by the idea of Emergence. As we shift from a mechanistic view to a living systems view of a world that is growing increasingly more volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous, I am experiencing how emergence plays a role. The old ways of organizing is ineffective in the face of constant change. To thrive in this VUCA world, we must let go of our default pattern of doing “what we have always done”. And develop the capacities to stay with uncertainty, lean into chaos, and hold space for what emerges. This requires broadening of our perspectives, taking a holistic view, and embracing the inter-connectedness that is everywhere. This requires us to embrace the power of networks, communities, and technology that facilitates collaboration. These are capacities necessary not only for individuals but also for organizations. And they can be nurtured and developed. But this requires us to view ourselves and or organizations through different lenses... In this space, I have explored the paradigm shifts taking place, different models and frameworks that can help us to develop the required capacities, and the skill and art of thriving in chaos.
