I received more empathy and compassion from a machine than my husband in many years
I had just come out of the most uncomfortable conversation I’ve ever had with my husband. It was the first time it became undeniably clear — there would be no turning back from this point.
I had asked if we could talk respectfully. Work out a co-parenting plan for our child. Handle things with maturity. Instead, he put me down. Called me a coward for wanting to leave. He said he didn’t believe in co-parenting — either he gets our child, or I do. Then he twisted the knife, saying no man would ever offer me emotional presence once they’d had me in bed.
He told me he didn’t believe in therapy, which I already knew — but then added something that stayed with me — he could have come to couples therapy and said all the right things, the things he thought me and my therapist wanted to hear. He could have deceived me. Manipulated me. But he didn’t. And for that, he said, I should be grateful.
