Amy Cottreau, known by Aymes Sarah on this platform, and I met through our writing early on in the pandemic. I immediately noted how ambitious and honest Amy was. She was passionate and wanted to out injustices, to help people.

Amy proudly posted new mama pics while unbeknownst to me she’d struggled with Post Partum Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

A mental health disorder I’d never heard of before.

I began writing about my experience being diagnosed with an additional mental health disorder at age 41 — OCD. Amy read this work and reached out to me. We began privately chatting about our experiences.

I had no idea PPOCD was a disorder. And, the more I considered it, I realized I had PPOCD with my first child. It was undiagnosed, but I very much experienced this. It was a relief to know I wasn’t alone and that other moms just like me were terrified of having their kids taken away if they sought help for the disorder.
