Everyone has a secret, something from the past that they carry around with them. Do you have a story that you don’t share with anyone?

Maybe you have a past relationship that didn’t end well. Perhaps you said or did something you aren’t proud of. Or maybe something happened when you were young, something traumatic and it makes you uncomfortable just to think about it, let alone share it.

Those are the secrets I’m talking about. Everyone has at least one.

And if you tell me you don’t have any secrets, I’ll smile and nod, but we both know you’re lying. I can’t believe you’ve lived such an uneventful life that you have nothing to hide.

We keep secrets hidden because of guilt or shame. The stories you hold inside can make you feel “ugly”. They don’t look so nice compared to the pretty Instagram photos we see every day. The digital nomad traveling the Maldives on a shoestring budget (while staying at the Four Seasons?), the perfectly quaffed workout king or queen, the picture of a well-plated meal without a single pearl of couscous out of place.

You realize those images are fake, right? Your secrets on the other hand are true, and I think you should share them.
